Starting Seedlings..

Well, this is the first year that I have embarked on starting all of my own seedlings. Last year I strarted a few. It was more part of the kids remote learning we were doing. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. This year I decided to dive in a little further. I set up a small indoor growing area. I bought two 2’ full spectrum lights and a small metal shelf. I didn’t want to buy an pile of plastic pots and trays. I used recycled trays from a friend, as a family we made our own pots and the covers I up-cycled plastic clam shells. We made our pots from old newspaper and a pot maker; it was a fun craft. We then filled the pots with soil and planted our various seeds.

I covered the seed starts with up-cycled plastic food clam shells. They stay covered until the seeds started to sprout.

Once seedlings had started to grow. I repotted the seedlings by placing the newspaper pot inside a hand-me-down plastic pot and filled around with soil. I still left these under the full spectrum lights until they are too tall. Then I moved the trays up to our windows that receive natural sunlight.

Eventually I will “harden” the seedlings then transplant to the garden. Follow along!
